With profound sadness, the outdoor sports community, family, friends, and admirers around the world are mourning the passing of Andrew “Andy” Lewis, the internationally recognized slackliner, BASE jumper, entrepreneur, and adventurer who passed away on June 14, 2026, following a tragic BASE jumping incident in the Mineral Bottom area of Grand County, Utah. He was 39.

Known globally by his nickname “Sketchy Andy,” Lewis was one of the most influential figures in the evolution of modern slacklining. Originally from Santa Rosa, California, he gained international recognition for helping popularize tricklining in the mid-2000s, bringing creativity, athleticism, and showmanship to the sport.

Among his many accomplishments, Andy set a Guinness World Record in 2011 for the most side surfs on a slackline in one minute and captivated millions during his performance in the halftime show of Super Bowl XLVI alongside Madonna. His passion for pushing limits and redefining possibility inspired athletes worldwide.

After making Moab, Utah, his home, Andy founded BASE Jump Moab, where he introduced countless adventurers to the thrill of BASE jumping. Friends describe him as larger than life—fearless, charismatic, innovative, and deeply devoted to sharing his love of adventure with others.

Though celebrated for his extraordinary athletic achievements, those closest to him will remember his generosity, infectious energy, and unwavering dedication to his community and fellow athletes.
